What an unbelievable 2 weekends of soccer. The weather was perfect and the teams were excellent. The 22nd year of this great event proved to be one of the best ever. On the girls side of the event, playoffs saw 4 penalty kick decisions and over a dozen 1 goal differentials. As always, Long Island Select produced some outstanding players in the U-12 division with the Glory. They dominated the age group and was the team to beat. Look for them in the future going places. JAGS Select is one of the Tri-States top programs and proved their case in the U-13 and U-14 age groups with 2 tough finals against the U-13 Inter County Select Program and the U-14 Long Island ODP. It is with out saying for those who got watch the EPYSA ODP U-15 team play. They are truly the best in that age group and can handle just about any competition in the country. These are some of the best players that you will find anywhere. Our U-19 age group produced some of the strongest teams in area and some of the most talented college bound players ever. Over 23 college coaches stopped by to do a little recuriting and we are sure they some players in the final between the SSC Stronghold and the Independence Punishers. The game tough and fair and ended in a 2-1 SSC victory. The boys portion of the event was as strong and as competitive as ever. Just about every game in the finals and semi-finals was decided by 1 or 2 goals. It is not possible to have better finals action than that. Two of the best clubs from Morris County NJ, the Parsippany Warriors and the Mt. Olive Valentinos battled to a 1-1 tie in the final game to have penalty kicks decide the fate of the game. Parsippany finished ahead by just one goal to capture the U-13 AB Group title. The Jersey Celtic Fenian Boys played hard and beat out a very strong CPYSL team in the U-13 boys C Group final to a 1-0 finish. The U-11 AB Group saw a tough battle between the Super Nova 92's and the Pasco Stallions of NJ. These are 2 very good teams with a bright future and a lot of good soccer ahead of them. They played to a 1-0 final. In the U-11 C Group, the Sparta Canons dominated the final and played well against a very talented and driven East Fishkill team from NY. The final was 3-0. But the big story of the weekend was the U-15 Boys Premier Group with states represented from CA, MD, RI, NJ, PA and NY. The competition was excellent and got better towards the finals. The big final match between the River City Thunder from CA and the powerhouse from RI, the Mid-State United ended in a 1-1 tie in regulation. Penalty kicks, unfortunately had to decide the fate of the game. River City Thunder - the 2004 U-15 Champions. Simply awesome. With over 210 teams representing 2 countries, 12 states and 30 different soccer leagues, the 2004 Pocono Cup Premier Soccer Tournament was a unbelievable event. Who could as for more? Congratulations to all the Champions. Your performance here at Pocono was nothing short of spectacular. Well done!!!
