Pocono Cup Soccer Tournament2006 Premier Champions |

With over 200 teams, 2 weekends of competition and Mother Nature giving us every challenge known to mankind, this tournament will go down in history (24 years) as the most difficult to organize and completely finish - ever. It had rained for 3 days straight leading to the set up week prior to the GIRLS weekend of July 1-2. The fields were already saturated from all the rain and were facing even more in the coming days. On Monday night before the 1st weekend, the biggest storm of the season rolled through and dropped anywhere from 5-13 inches of rain all along the east coast from Washington DC all the way to Boston. Unfortunately our main field site was located along the Delaware River and a few of it's tributaries. On Tuesday, the river overflowed it's banks and on Wednesday night it crested. Streets were closed, bridges were out, highways were shut down and most importantly, soccer field were destroyed. Nine of them in all. On Tuesday night and Wednesday night, the Committee scrambled to find replacement fields and completely re-write the game schedule. With the help from area schools and local soccer clubs, we were able to find 9 backup fields that worked out perfectly. The tournament was completed in it's entirety. And what a tournament it was. The competition was excellent, the scores were close and games were as exciting as ever. Congratulations to all the teams that made it to the playoff rounds and worked so hard to prove themselves. Congratulations to all the teams that dealt with last minute preparations and came to play. Congratulations to all of those that helped out at the last minute to make this event happen. Congratulations to another year of premier soccer competition. To watch these teams play was worth every effort.
