Critical News April 22, 2009 Pocono Cup Soccer Tournaments Postponed For the 1st time in 27 years, the Pocono Cup Soccer Tournament will be cancelled for the 2009 season. Our Tournament Committee has made this most difficult and emotional decision as a result of the current economic times. This postponement is a direct result from the over inflated costs to travel to the Poconos on our scheduled weekends. Our Committee can not and will not, in good conscience, ask our traveling soccer families to absorb these financial extremes. The Tournament Committees most critical mission is to communicate this information to all parties involved - beginning with the registered teams/coaches. Information regarding immediate return of entry fees, other available tournament venues and a full explanation for the decision as well as plans for 2010 is forthcoming at once. For the majority of the families reading the notice, please understand that our thoughts and prayers are with you if you are in a financial pinch at this time. We all believe that travel soccer is most important in the development of young players. However, if it forces any strain on the financial well being of the family unit, then we should all seek a more acceptable way to reach our goals. Our sincerest and best wishes to you, your players and those that support this great game. We will see you in 2010
Positive News for 2010 We are proud to introduce 2 new fields to our tournament schedule. East Stroudsburg University and Pleasant Valley High School are excited to offer the Pocono Cup Tournaments the opportunity to play matches on their NEW TURF FIELDS. These recently installed and "state of the art" artificial turf fields are located in the main stadiums at both campuses. Check out the fields - http://www4.esu.edu/athletics/general_releases/2007-08/oct11-07.cfm The new fields are absolutely beautiful and set up perfectly for tournament competition. This will be an incredible experience for the players as well as a great memory for the families." Matt Mugavero - Tournament Director

Directions on how to apply for acceptance to a tournament.
The Tournaments: There are 2 levels of competition, a "Premier" level tournament and a "Club" level tournament. Premier Level : The Pocono Cup "Girls" Premier/Olympic & The Pocono Cup "Boys" Premier/Olympic Tournament are designed specifically for teams competing at the highest level. This event has a 25 year history and has played host to some of the best teams in the nation. State select teams, super premier club teams and talented tournament teams have showcased many players that have gone on to play professionally overseas and here in the MLS. If you are looking for the best in competition, this is the event of choice. Club Level: The Memorial Day Pocono "Club" Division Tournament is designed specifically for club travel teams looking for the best in tournament formatting and competitive play. The purpose of the event to provide club teams with the opportunity grow as a group and gain valuable tournament experience. In that spirit, acceptance is restricted to those teams playing at a "club" level within their individual leagues. A proof of playing ability will be required with each team application. Tournament play will be separated into 2 flights (Flt 1, Flt 2) based on their current league rankings. The Location: Stroudsburg Pennsylvania, in the "Heart of the Poconos". Our two outstanding soccer parks are easily assessable off Interstate 80 and just over the PA boarder within an easy driving distance from anywhere in the Tri-State area. The main complex, Monroe County Parks / Burnley Soccer Fields, has 10 centrally located fields including 2 brand new championship fields in great condition. We are also very proud to announce the addition of Smithfield Township's Minisink Soccer Park. This facility has a spectacular view of the Delaware Water Gap and will host 3 championship playing fields growing on former farmland. These fields are lush and have plenty of additional space for warm-ups and practice. We have also added 2 new turf fields located in the main stadiums of East Stroudsburg University and Pleasant Valley High School. These amazing fields will certainly be an amazing experience for the players and the families. The Games: Every tournament is a Saturday-Sunday event. Each team plays 4 preliminary games with a maximum of 2 playoff rounds. Each match is played in 25 minute halves with the majority of the games held on Saturday. Sunday is reserved for the last of the preliminary rounds and all playoffs matches. All full sided games are refereed by a 3 man system. Only the best referees are selected to return each year to manage the games. Bracketing is determined by the number of teams accepted in each age group with a limit of 16 and then set to blind draw. Teams are separated by state, league and division to avoid repetitive matches. Points are awarded for wins and ties. The total number of teams in your bracket determines the number of points your team needs to qualify. Under 9 & Under 10 play 8v8 rosters. Under 11 and above play 11v11 rosters.
