The 20th annual Pocono Cup Soccer Tournament concluded this year with some intense action and some great soccer stories.  The quality of teams again this was outstanding.  It seems the dedication and hard work from everyone involved is really paying off.  The select programs have improved again and continue to develop talent at the highest level.  The premier clubs played as well as any that we have seen.  This has been one of the most strongly competitive fields that we have hosted in the twenty years of tournaments - at the Pocono Cup. It just proves that East Coast soccer is back on the rise.  It was a pleasure to watch.

The girls' Cup provided some unbelievable action and added some history to this great event. The now U19 girls from Staten Island Select (4th Championship appearance in a row) faced off with Salt City Storm in the finals and needed 14 penalty kicks to decide the winner.  This is a record for any game ever played in this event.  The drama and suspense was a priceless.  The Olympic Development Program from EPYSA entered 3 outstanding teams in the tournament on special training exemption.  Each team played up two full age groups and got in some great competition. The U14 ODP playing in the U16 age group battled all weekend long playing some of the prettiest soccer we have seen in some time.  This team went on to win the championship.  In the U15 age group, a local team from Morris County NJ, the Hurricanes from Parsippany, played as well as any team in the event.  They had to give it everything they had to hold off the pressure from a great team, the Reading Score.   The Bergen Black hawks had 2 of their 3 teams entered advancing to the playoffs. The third team , a U11, only missed qualifying by a one goal differential points tie-breaker, going 3 & 1 and having a great weekend of soccer.  The U13 Bergen Black hawks went on to win the Championship.  The Long Island Select program proved again, as they do every year, that they are one of the best - if not the best - premier select program on the East Coast.  They won the Cup in the U12 C/D and in the U13 A/B.  The South Jersey Select program is on the same level, winning the Cup in the U11 and the U12 A/B Group.  What an unbelievable year of girls competitive soccer. 

After twenty years of hosting the Pocono Cup Boys Premier Tournament, it is clearly evident that the best teams on the East Coast are still coming here to find the ultimate in competition.  The select programs continue to improve on their organization and player development.  The club teams that are determined to stay together over the summer months, have proven that they are more than ready to take on any challenge.  In the U15 age group, the Knights from Jersey held off an offensive rush  from the extremely talented Randolph Royals.  The knights scored the winning goal in an exiting over-time victory.  The U14 C/D age bracket hosted 2 teams that have seen each other a few times.  The determined Stroudsburg United fell just short by one goal to the Gunners F.C. from Pennsylvania.  These are 2 very nice teams.  The U12 A/B bracket showcased 2 of the tri-states best select programs from the New York area, the Long Island Select and the Cosmopolitan Select.  What a game.  Great action leading to over-time and sudden death penalty kicks.  A tough way to lose, but Long Island showed great character coming up just short of a victory.  The players from Cosmopolitan matched their character by coming over to their sideline and  applauding theirs opponents efforts.  Great job guys and true sportsmanship - that is what the tournament is all about.  

Congratulations to all the Champions.  Your performance here at Pocono was nothing short of spectacular.
